I think this girl I work with is trying to get me fired. I am higher on the "totom pole" than her but she is about 20 years older than me and I think this bothers her. She is constantly kissing my bosses a** and if I so much as look at her wrong shes running to him and the rest of my co workers and exagerating majorly about what happened and I end up looking bad. No matter how hard I try to be nice to her it just doesn't work out. I am to my wits end with her. What should I do?

confront her! If you think you might get fired anyway you might as well fight for what you believe in. I'm tired of the a$$ kissers and bullies of the world, take a stand. If your boss can't see what shes doing and fires you then screw him. You deserve better! Good luck and be strong...

Try to talk to her. Even though she doesn't like you for who knows why and you don't like her because she's trying to get you fired...just try it. Offer to help with her work, maybe? I'm not sure what kind of job you have so I can't give you an example but since you're hire on the totom pole why not teach her something and be really polite about it so you don't come off as being a total ***** and trying to rub it in her face that you are higher on the food chain.

I've been in your position before and life sucks. There is no escaping such evils and you will have to face it head on. Remember, morals only work when others play by the moral code. If no such code is use, don't be the dumba$$ who practice a code that is not part of the game.
Game Plan.
Machiavelli Style;
First off, you need to have a plan to get rid of her. Study all you can about this lady, know her likes and dislikes. Get into her mind and play with emotions. Never kiss a$$, that is just a sign of weakness and she will know it and exploit it to its max. Instead, find something in common and show it off (discreetly) pretending that you don't know she have the same interest. Remember to never go to her (lure her to you) make her come to you.
After you have gain her trust, you must stay focus on your goal, don't let emotions get the best of you, start getting to know her friends and do the same to her friends as you did to her. This is what you call converting allies. If this is done successfully, you will have about the same resource as she and now you can go to war with a chance.
Know her secrets and weakness use it to your advantage and set up traps that you know will get her fired. Always do it with a smile and do not show a hint of resentment towards her. In short, you need to know how to play politics. I can recommend some books if you like.

Sorry to say this, but there's one person like her at every job.
Ignore her. Most importantly try not to show that her actions bother you. Your boss and coworkers ALREADY know she is an a**kisser and probably do not take her too seriously. You need to do the same.
Also, you are higher on the "totem pole" so she has no power over you. If she says something about you to your boss, DO NOT GO BACK TO YOUR BOSS TO DEFEND YOURSELF. Act like what she said is not important.
If your boss should ever ask you about any of her accusations, just say, "Oh, you know how SHE is. I can't believe you took her seriously. You know no one here even listens to her."

Go to your manager or boss whatever-if he doesn't listen to you go to someone higher than him about the situation. He has a boss too. Another possibility is walking right up to the girl and asking her what the problem is; She probably will tell you.

um........ wow. I would try ignoring her (don't try talking to her, don't look at her, etc.) unless she tries to talk to you, and when she does try to make the answer to the question (if it is one) as thoughtful as possible. Did I help?

just dont talk to her at all and she wont be able to twist your words out of proportion. ive been there, so its going to be hard, trust me.
