My opinion is this:
She wants a baby because a baby means Unconditional Love. She wants to be loved by someone that will always love her, regardless of anything else, and who will never turn their back on her.
It sounds as though her boyfriend, whom she thinks she really loves, is really abusive and irresponsible with her. This probably causes her to have very low self esteem, and causes her to seek affection from other places. In this case, she may think that a baby will fill a void in her heart that he has caused.
This is undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons that teenage girls have babies (apart from unprotected sex). They want someone to love them unconditionally.
It is also the WORST idea they could ever have. Sure, babies love them. But, being a Mama at 17 is the most stressful thing she could ever do, and she is closing the door on so many opportunities that she has. It is not the sweet, loving thing that she thinks it will be. It will be endless nights of crying, formula and diaper changing, and endless years of never having enough money.
Your friend needs to get a reality check, dump the abusive boyfriend, and do some positive things to raise her self esteem. A baby is not a plaything that someone should use to do this!! Counseling would go a lot further to do this than a baby would!

I think this girl is looking for unconditional love and the only way to find that is through a child and she thinks if she has a baby with this boy that it will make him stay with her which in a lot of instances he won't. Is this the first real boyfriend this girl has been with? She may not really know any other guys and has a false love for this boy and her parents may not be a good role model for her to show her how a relationship goes and that is why she doesn't mind this boyfriend treating her badly. I think it is not a good idea that this girl have a baby so young. If she really wants a child with this boy she should wait until after she's graduated high school and maybe even college and has a good job and a place of her own. There are a lot of single teen mothers out there on welfare and not doing well at all. Love isn't always the thing that will take you through life. She can't just love him he has to love her too.

Ok no matter how much she loves him, he might not always feel the same way. Typically, when unmarried people have kids, raising the child falls to the mother. So if she is ready to support herself in her own place, get a job and not be able to spend the time with her child that she imagines is possible because she has to work so many hours to afford to live, struggle to get anything more than a high school education, give up a social life until her mid thirties (babysitters are expensive these days), not have many other men interested in a relationship with her because she has another man's child, and give up her dreams of "the finer things in life", then maybe she is ready.
But i doubt this. She needs to know that life is not a movie! There are no fairytale endings, there are few men on white horses willing to save you, and babies are not a solution!!!
She's making a committment to take care of something for longer than she's been alive!!

What do you honestly expect a reasonably thinking adult to say about a 17 year old CHILD wanting to get pregnant and have a baby with another 17 year old child? At 17 you're not even old enough to vote, buy cigarettes, drink alcohol, or graduate high school in most cases! How would a 17 year old who has little or no experience taking care of themselves take care of a baby??? USE SOME COMMON SENSE!

I think it is a bad idea because what if one day he decides he wants to leave her and the child... a kid is not going to hold him down and if she thinks that it will she is wrong and she is young, once she has the baby she wont be able to go to school and get a career, oh and why on earth would she want to have a child with a guy that treats her bad

First off having a baby does not makes a guy loves you. At any age having a baby is work. Hard work. Very hard work. To top things off, is she able to take care of a baby without any help from mom, dad, anything like that. Just think about it.

If she had an ounce of consideration in her soul, she would not let a child be born into such tragically unfortunate circumstances.
Being seventeen is tough for everyone, but having a child will not solve a thing!
If I were you I'd whack her upside the head with a textbook for even considering such a stupid thing.
(I don't have much sympathy for the girl, but it's the child who concerns me; he/she deserves better than some moronic 17 yr old for a mom)

Honestly this to me sounds as though the girl is thinking she can change this guy by having a baby. She has hopes he will become the "man" she's always wanted him to be. Unfortunatly this is a common problem and it almost never ends in the females favor.
