No, in most cases you can have a wireless card made by a different manufacturer than your router. Almost all networking hardware nowadays is compatible with each other. Your connection may be a little better and you may gain a little bit more functionality if you do go with products from the same manufacturer just because they were designed to work together, but they don't have to be the same. If you post specifically what brand your router is and what wireless cards you are considering, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you for sure if they are compatible.

If you use the scan feature in some cards, you shouldn't need a card of the same brand. Scan for the router and it should be found. Anymore questions, ask me.
