Schools are intended to educate people, what more can I say? You must be able to find books that will give you some of the history of schools, from the early private schools to the more recent state schools, that were established about 120 years ago. Education is to prepare people for life, or should be. you may be able to find some sort of statement or charter setting out what the purpose of schools is and the education that provide, or are supposed to. In addition to your local library you may be able to use a university or collage library

We go to school because we need to learn. But since (IMO) the school system in the U.S. doesn't really help us learn that much anyway, I attend school so I can go to a good college, so I can go to a good job, so I can get some money and support a family.
