I was shocked!! He IS the Oilers. I hope they are just renting him out for the rest of the season and will re-sign him this summer. They want the players to be loyal to them but look what they do in return to the players.

No, just surprised at first though. But then, this very well might be a rent- a -player deal, like Carolina did with Recchi last year. Just a little boost for the playoffs. He'll probably re-sign with the Oilers next year.

It's not likely he'll stay an Islander. The Islanders definitely made the best trade deadline deal in picking up Smyth, but it will likely cost them in the long run. I don't think even Smyth will help them win the Cup, but it will make them a tougher team in the post-season.
Smyth will definitely catapult them into the playoffs.

What did you say when Gretzky was traded? It's part of the business of hockey. Never forget this game is a business to the people that run the teams. When the Blues got rid of Bob Bassen I was none too pleased. Keep pulling for the Oilers and hope Luongo doesn't slam the door on everyone in the West.

aging veteran shipped off to richer market, one player is not the team, oilers will now have more money to play with in off-season,if the fans ran the teams every team would be like the Leafs,on the out-side ,looking in.

I love it. Maybe b/c im a diehard islanders fan, but the only thing bad bout the trade is the loss of our 1st round draft pick and our prospect Nillson

It looks like they just rented him out, but it may backfire, but I don't care.
