If it is important for the oil company to get all of your money then yes. If your car does not call for premium gas than you are just wasting your money.

You can put whatever grade you want in the car, but if your owners manual says premium and you use regular, your engine will probably start knocking and then will stop when your vehicle adjusts for the lower octane. So if your vehicle is designed for premium you may not get the performance the vehicle was designed for when using cheaper gas.
If your vehicle says regular, use regular, some vehicles drive worse with premium and will actually lose fuel economy.
So yes, it's ok to put regular in your vehicle even if it recommends premium, but the price is not really that big of a deal. It would only cost a few dollars more for a tank of premium gas and if your vehicle is designed for premium.
You will probably not notice any difference though. Try it out and see for yourself, you will not cause any damage.

Put premium in only if it calls for it, check the owners manual for the proper octane rating and grade of fuel. Premium fuel is slightly harder to ignite so you dont get preignition, (knock) with higher compression engines. Most modern cars have a knock sensor so even if the manual calls for premium the computer will retard the timing and you will not damage the engine, there is a slight drop in maximum power, but you probably dont drive with wide open throttle all that much anyway, or do you?

The owners manual will tell you exactly what grade of gas to put in there...unless it is a high performance engine, it is unlikely you need more than regular unleaded.
Running "high test" in a car that wasn't engineered for it is:
1. Wastefull, since it burns faster, giving slightly less gas mileage...
2. It burns hotter, and could eventually cause problems.
Stick with the manufacturers recommendations...

look at the inside of your gas cap cover and check the fuel recomendation on it. if its not there it will be in the owners manual. if its not there call the dealer. if it says 91 octane the put 91 octane in it, if you dont it will cause your engine to knock and run rough which will decrease the life of your engine. if it says 87 octane, dont put midgrade or premium in it because it will not increase any power it'll just burn a little hotter. the only way you can increase the power is to put a chip in, then run the premium

most new cars don't use premium gas unless it is a high performance car or has a supercharger, check the owners manual to make sure but if not one of these cars you are just wasting your money.

Not really. Look at your manual and read where it has info on your gas. It will give you recommendations on what grade of gas to get.
There is no reason to buy a higher grade than needed.
If you use lower, you will not get as good of power and may hear a "ping" noise.

If you have a new car then you have an Owners Manual that came with it. It will tell you what grade gasoline to use, and why.

sure you could. all the gasoline bought for automobile use interior the US is unleaded. see you later as you're utilizing gasoline that has the octane score cautioned on your vehicle or larger you'd be ok. notwithstanding, by utilizing larger octane gasoline you gained't observe any reward. in truth, the better the octane, the slower the gasoline burns, it really is conceivable that your gasoline mileage will drop particularly and also you're paying extra in line with gallon. Use the bottom octane gasoline you could, without going below the manufacturers concepts.
