...I am about 5 days late for my period (I am about 18 or 19 days past ovulation, and about 34 days after my last period). I am pretty regular (in the 28-30 day range).
Starting about two weeks ago, I began feeling nauseous (and I have a VERY strong stomach) and had a weird taste in my mouth, then started cramping (mostly on the right side), and I've been exhausted. Now, for the past couple of days, my breasts have gotten bigger and more tender. I have taken a couple of home pregnancy tests (HPT), but all have shown negative (so far).
My husband and I are actively trying to conceive, and I was wondering if anyone knew of the possibility of home pregnancy tests not accurately showing positive results? How long should I wait to get my period before I contact a doctor about getting a blood test done?

➔ Trying to Conceive
Ordinarily, I beleive that they want you to wait for a week or two before coming in for confirmation. The reasons that your had a negative test could be....
1. you are not pregnant
2. you miscalculated and ovulated later then normal- and so it is too early to get a positive test.
3. the concentration of hCG in your urine is not high enough. Some women do not test positive until the end of the first trimester- although this is not common. You would still get a positive blood test.
The reasons for your symptoms could be..
1. Stress- expecially the nausea. Trying to conceive can be stressful- expecially as the months/years go on.
2. The high progesterone that is characteristic of the second half of your cycle is also the hormone of pregnancy that causes the nausea, cramping, big/sore breasts, and the like. Which is why it is hard to read information into these symptoms.
If you are charting (it sounds like you are) and it is *very* clear that you ovulated when you did- I would go now to the dr for a test. In addition you may have an ovarian cyst- which can cause prolonged high progesterone and a delayed period. This can cause pain (is the cramping painful). I would probably check it out..
Good luck

You should have a blood test done now so if you are pregnant you can start getting prenatal care.....It is possible for a false neg on a pregnancy test because you may not have enough hcg built up in your urine yet...a blood test will be more accurate at this point.....Good Luck!

I would see a doctor right away. It could be an ectopic pregnancy or an ovarian cyst. Better to be safe than sorry.

it's possible. if the home tests don't work, i guess you could call the doctor. i mean hospital tests are more accurate than the home ones.
