my mouse all of a sudden stopped working. I've plugged in different ones but they don't work on the computer either. I even tried a brand new mouse...still nothing. Otherwise the pc is working fine using short keys. Any ideas what this could be?

I've tried both. the standard mouse that hooks in the back AND a usb mouse.

Do you get an error during POST when your system is booting saying no PS2 mouse detected? Are all the ones that do not work PS2 mice? Did you try a USB mouse yet? Your mouse prt on your mobo could be bad--it happens. If so, a USB mouse will work fine. Same with a keyboard.

Go to control panel and enter the file named mouse.

Then go to the field labled hardware.
It will show you if your mouse is acting right or not in case it probably will say "mouse not working properly."

After that enter the troubleshoot option and follow the instructions.
Hopefully this works for you.

Your PS2 jack went bad. Try an USB mouse.

could be a driver issue, or the port just isnt working anymore
