US girl you have asked a really great question, one that every History buff will relish because it is so UNBELIEVABLE !

And what shocked me most was that our LEADER, RICH who is is LEVEL 7 was so off base he will have to work hard to regain his former STATUS in ANSWERS !

RICK suggests that the Anglo-Saxon period in England ended with the ROMAN INVASION. WOW ! The Roman Invasion was 55 BC until 410 when the last Roman was recalled.

The Anglo-Saxon period was AFTER the Romans and it lasted until ALFRED THE GREAT'S (871-901) successor died. That was 1017 so, after the Saxons came the Danish Period.

Emele or someone suggested the Saxon period ended with Christianity. Not true. Christianity was introduced during ROMAN TIMES but the Saxons drove it off. They were Wicans.

The Roman Governor, Constantine tried again to introduce Christianity to Britain in 597 by sending missionaries from Ireland. This time converts appeared and Christianity spread over the England and Wales and was widespread when Alfred the Great ruled.

To those of us who love history the most astounding fact that is seldom mentioned and little known is that English people did NOT arrive in England until 449 !

The second unusual fact is that the first English people came from Czechoslovakia and Germany at the request of the Britons after the Romans left.

WHEN the french kicked their *** :D

Rich: when the Romans were defeated in rome circa 476, the Angles and the Saxons weren't even in Britan yet, but still on Jutland.

Their "period", as I said, came to a close when the french invaded. I think it was around 13th century. I dont know which of those dudes it was. the Vikings had a fair swing at them, but they survived. it was not the coming of Christianity either. Wiki the others to know.
