I received a Wii for Christmas, and have played several of the type of games that you are looking for. I am assuming that the Wii is meant to be shared, so you probably want multiplayer games for all ages. I would recommend Rayman: Raving Rabbids. It is an awesome game with tons of fun mini games. However, all players will need a nunchuk and, of course, a remote. It seems like the best choice out of the game's I have played that suits the receivers age, as well as her sister. Out of the games I haven't played, WarioWare: Smooth Moves also seems like a good choice, as well as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Super Swing Golf. As a note, however, most of these games will probably cost around $50, so make sure that you find a good one. I wish the birthday girl happy birthday, and hope that she enjoys her new Wii and games with her sister. Tell her that the Wii is more fun in numbers!

There are several games that are great for the Wii, such as WarioWare: Smooth Moves. There's also Sonic & the Secret Rings, which just came out for the Wii. You an get Wii Play too, it's kind of like Wii Sports, except it has different games. Excite Truck is a cool game too, but the 8 year old sister might not be into racing games. I think WarioWare: Smooth Moves is the best game for the Wii right now. You can go to http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/default_wii/1031 to search for Wii games!

I would suggest buying her a classic game off of the Wii Virtual Console service. Perhaps Super Mario World from the SNES, or Sonic The Hedgehog from the Sega Genesis...
You can get information about the Virtual Console here....
