dell laptop internet connection?

I have a new dell laptop inspiron 640m.
The internet connection is very slow. However not always. If you search using google/yahoo it is still its usual fast self at getting the responses, however if you then click on any of the sites returned by google/yahoo it takes an age for the sites to load. It is not my internet connection as if I test using my old computer the internet is as fast as usual.
It is not the wireless feature on the laptop because it still does this when connected using a wire!
I think it is some safety feature that dell/vista have introduced or something else that slows everything down, anyone have any ideas? thanks to any responders.

Thanks for the answers guys, the answer was that the anti virus software that came with it that was slowing everythingdown insanely. I uninstalled it and now it runs like lightening.

Clear your browser cache:
IE, Tools, Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Delete File (check to delete offline files also)

Are you using Parental controls, these things will cost you speed big time. Disable them.

A pal of mine is having the exact same problem. I thought Dell were a good company, but now after hearing all this, they won't ever get my money. Sorry 'n' all.
