Yea it is true ferrets smell weird, they are really curious as well but they are very playful and fun. I've never had one I've only played with them in the pet store. I do however own an iguana, he is A LOT of work that's true. You have to be able to devote quit a lot of space to an iguana, as they do get very large! Also they have special, diet, heating, lighting and humidity requirements in order for them to live a good healthy life. But if you have the time and patience these creatures make great pets. My best advice- find out as much as you can about them from websites, books,etc...., also patience pays off, I've had my iguana for 5 years, and most people that meet him can't believe how friendly and calm he is! It is only because I've spent so much time with him that he's so used to people. He even manages to coexist fine with my other animals. They all just are aware of each others boundaries I guess.I'm so glad that you are asking these questions first however because so many people do not. It is so important to research any animal before you make the commitment to become their owner. Check out this website all about igs...... It's full of all kinds of good info about green iguanas. good luck! http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/

Hey I have a ferret, there not as stinky as people make out, keeping kitty litter clean will do the trick, there are other tricks like ferret deoderant (u can get it from pet shops)
Iguanas are probly little bit more expensive to keep in the set up of the tank with heat mats and lighting etc. But not really difficult to keep.
Google pet advice that should answer some questions.
The other thing you can do is look at www.youtube.com and look for videos of other peoples pet ferrets and Iguanas.
Personally I think Ferrets are more entertaining!!
Good Luck choosing!!

i've had 2 ferrets, and i'll answer in order:
1. NO, ferrets do not smell bad. their litter boxes do if you don't change the litter daily, and some males do have a musky oder to them. however most ferrets you will find at your pet store, do not smell, bcuz they have had the glands removed.
2. YES, ferrets are very curious. i think it's cute, i call them carpet sharks, bcuz they are into everything. that's why whatever rooms you let them run around in, you need to ferret-proof it.
i love ferrets!! sorry i don't know about iguanas :)

Iguanas are hard to take care of. You can't just feed them pellets or packaged pet food. For a healthy iguana, you need to buy fresh veggies and chop them finely for them. Also, they need a lot of room to grow, so you'll need to devote a large space for them, even their own room. I'm not sure about ferrets, but regardless, with any pet purchase, be sure to do plenty of research (like you have already started by asking on Y!A) and be ready to devote a lot of time to it.

you might think about a Bearded Dragon. They are quiet, clean, very people oriented and very sweet. I have two of them. They need fresh veggies, fruit and crickets. They get to be about 24" long and can live to be up to 12 years old.

Ferrets have a musky odor (not really a bad odor) for about the first month or two that you have them. The reason they have an odor in the pet store is 1) most pet stores are too busy to take adequate care of their cage. 2) Pet stores recieve ferrets when they are still babies. The ferrets were descented right before being shipped to the pet shop. It takes the ferrets body a while to finish secreeting out the remaining odor.
I have never owned an iguana and cannot begin to tell you if they are good pets or not, however, I have been a ferret owner for over 10 years. Please check out this question I answered for another Yahoo Answers participent. I have provided helpful information and links that will help you decide if a ferret is right for you.
I own 2 ferrets and also owned a ferret before that. I have owned ferrets for over 10 years! Thats a long time! I will try to offer you some good pointers as well as some websites to help you out.
Here is some good advice...I reallllly suggest (if your budget can afford it) to buy 2 ferrets! I have learned through experience that ferrets are happiest with a friend. It also, believe it or not, keeps them out of trouble. Ferrets are indeed too curious for their own good and need the distraction. If you cannot afford two ferrets the best thing to do would be to start saving for the second one OR wait until you have enough money to purchase 2 at one shot. A decent size cage is very important. For the first month or so of owning your ferret(s) you will want to keep them in their cage while you are sleeping or not at home. After you establish a trust with your ferret you will be able to leave them out all day putting them in the cage only while you are sleeping. You will need a cage that is atleast 3 levels high. These cages can be really expensive. The price range is 200-250 dollars. I will list a website later that offers these same cages for a fraction of the price...about 150 dollars. Cage accessories are important...you will need a hammock, water bottle, food dish, toys, soft bedding, 2 litter pans, and litter. For the food dish buy a heavy "crock" style dish. Ferrets will knock turn over anything they can so if you buy a heavy dish they cannot make a huge mess with their food. Also...buy the biggest ferret pan you can find. the largest ones usually run about 10 bucks a piece. If you buy the small ones, as the ferret grows, they will feel uncomfortable using them and poop outside of the box. Also, you will want a second pan for outside of the cage.
Now that you have all the necessary things like the ferret(s), cage, and accessories, you have to think about food. I personally recommend using a mix of 8in1 brand ferret food and ZooPreem ferret food. They are good quality and a good price. Mixing the two foods will insure your ferret is getting a variety as well as proper nutrition. You will need a vitamin for your ferret as well. Buy FerriVite in the tube. Ferrets love it. You give them a small amount every day to make sure they stay healthy. Treats are good too. Although I hate Marshall ferret food (because it is overpriced and not healthfull at all) I do recommend their treats. Use them sparingly giving your ferret(s) just a few a day.
Things you will have to work on with your ferret are: litter training, digging food out of dish, nipping. When the ferret looks like it is backing up into a corner pick them up and put them in their litter pan. Make sure to place a litter pan in the corner of the room they seem to frequent for bathrooming. Ferrets will like to dig food and litter out of their dish and pan for the first few weeks while they are getting used to their surroundings. It will pass, but keep an eye out for it. Ferrets are just like puppies, they like to bite when they are babies. Keep a lot of toys and treats around to deter bitting.
Have you picked a location for your ferret? I advise anyone who wants to be a ferret owner to pick one room and stick with it. I would also pick a room that can be closed off from the rest of the house like your bedroom. This is strictly for safety purposes. If you give your ferrets enough attention and supply enough toys and things to explore (like boxes with old clothes or toys in it) then confining them to one room is fine. Young ferrets will bite...they don't bite to harm you or because they don't like you. Young ferrets are like puppies and nip a lot. Keep toys and treats available at all times to deter bitting.
Think your ferret is missing? Try looking in ALL of your dresser drawers, desk drawers, under sheets and blankets. They like to hide everywhere to fall asleep for a long nap. Also...open drawers slowly, check your bed before you sit or lay down, check chairs, and look under piles of things before stepping on or over them JUST IN CASE your ferret is in or under them.
I can't possibly tell you everything about owning ferrets. A lot is experience. I do think I hit some major points though. Check out these sites. They offer good info on owning ferrets:

http://www.ferrets.org/ferrets_as_pets.h...
This site will help you find a lot of good ferret products cheaper than you will find in stores. I frequent this site and buy from them a lot. They are reputable and I recommend them:

If you take my advice, visit these sites, and pick the healthiest looking ferret you can find you will be a good ferret owner. Enjoy...they really are fun animals to own.
