Eat oatmeal every day for a few days, it works like a charm and it's good for the body. You can also use your hand, or have someone else rub in a circle around your belly button in a massaging motion.

We have to do that for people in the nursing home a lot.

Another spot you can massage is the lower back about 2 inches above the tail-bone, massage in a circular motion.

If these don't work and you are hesitant to take medications you can go get a full body massage and let the person know you are constipated, they can usually massage the stomach in a certain way that will get things moving, plus it's really relaxing.

If nothing helps, try over the counter laxatives or enemas.

If this doesn't help, seek medical advice.

Eat things with fiber like bran cereal, green leafy vegetables, or oatmeal.

Sometimes things high in lactose or fat can also help get things moving: eggs, milk, refried beans, sour cream, ect...

If none of that helps, you can buy Correctol over the counter at the drugstore. While the recommended dose is 2 pills, 1 is usually quite sufficient. If you take it before bedtime it works well.

When I feel like that I take a nice warm shower and then relax in it. I let my mind wander, and then when I'm done I like to listen to some music. Also, if you have a pet playing with them does the trick, also. I have a cat and she is very active, so it helps! Good luck!

My dad once went to the doctor because of this sort of problem. The doctor told him to get apple juice and cranberry juice (not cranapple, they do things to those juice cocktails that make it less potent), mix them, and drink plenty of it.
