Through helping others you help yourself. You think more uplifting thoughts, which in turn, reflect how you view your world of experience. If you are a selfish person, then that is how you perceive the world. Likewise, if you are a helpful and beneficent person..., well, I think you get the rest ^_^

I believe you should always help others. I've been down, I've been on the streets. I know how it feels. I know I have wonderful people in my life that help me out and without them, I would be lost. Since I can't return the same favors to them (Because I have little that they need other than love), I offer my services to anyone around me. Sometime's it's a smile, a "hello", or a "have a great day". Sometimes it's being VP of service for my fraternity. Sometimes homelss shelter, sometimes just helping my dad with some physical labor. (I'm 24, there's no longer that requirement.)

I also do it because I like it. I like to see people smile. I like building a respectable reputation. I like feeling good about helping others. And I like the fake reassurace that when I need someone they will be there for me.

Kind of a Karma-thing, maybe.

But none of the above explains why I go WAY out of my way for people. I guess I'm just nice like that.

India has it. Since many millenia.

Among all countries in the world, India has inherited
the largest number of ancient manuscripts from time
immemorial. They were written on the widest range of
subjects known to humans. They have spread their
knowledge to many contries in ancient times.

The oldest universities of the world are located in India.
Scholars from far east and Europe used to come to
India for higher learning in ancient times.

Even in modern times, Indians are helping others if you
understand their higher intensions. About 68% of
foreign medical personnel in U.S.A are Indians. About
70% of foreign computer programers in U.S.A. are
Indians. About 45% of foreigners in U.S.A. with
non-professonal degrees are Indians. The personnel who
came to U.S.A. to spread the knowledge of Indian
philosophy, meditation and yoga are Indians.

Who else in this world followed 'this philosophy'?

[3:93] You cannot attain to righteousness unless you spend out of that which you love; and whatever you spend, God
surely knows it well.
