I'd say 10-20 years and we'll have a huge mess on our hands.
We're at 8 Trillion in debt now-- if we don't balance the budget and pay down the debt, we're done for.
Captain, you have no clue--

Since such corruption is in every government ever made, it's hard to say how long it will take. It mainly depends on how long the people put up with the government spending. So far, it looks like the American people are some of the most tolerent people in history. It took over 800 years for the Ottoman Empire to fall even though it was one of the worst tyrannies in history. United States spends about as much as the Ottomans did (percentage wise, that is, how much percentage did they spend when considering their income). If a tyranny lead by a series of idiots (who were more tyrannical and money-loose than GWB) can last longer than any other government in history (even the Roman Empire) than who knows how long a democracy with a corrupt Congress and Presidency could last. We certainly won't retain our position in the world as the supreme world power for much longer. China is quickly taking that from us. We have reached and passed our economic height, as I see it. After Reagan, we went from being the biggest loan-giver to the country with the most international debt. We have yet to recover from that and we are only getting deeper and deeper in the hole. But, then again, it took four hundred years for the Ottoman Empire to collapse after its height and it took the Roman Empire more than 200 years to fall after its height as well. England was at its height almost two full centuries ago (at least 150 years) and it doesn't look like it'll ever collapse. So it all depends on how long the people can put up with the government corruption. My guess is that United States won't collapse, but it will lose its position as the supreme world power within 50-100 years.

The amount we overspend has been cut - not our national debt. Amazing how dumb some people are. I bet our country will be in civil war betweent the rich and the poor in 15 - 20 years when the health care and Social Security system crashes.
