Contact a structural engineer and have them perform an inspection on the crack, foundation, floor members and bearing walls. They may need to chip out areas of the crack to check for conditions that are causing the problem. They'll be able to provide you with further recommendations and repair options.

It's probably plaster, instead of sheetrock...there's many things you can do
Cheap and temporary is to get some sheetrock joint compound and fill it in there, tape over it and put some more compond on it untill you cant see the tape. Then spray on some texture you can buy in a spray can(or x-mas tree flocking) then paint. After a couple years you'll probably see the crack again because your house is probably up on a sub-floor which is rotting away at the bottom of the piers. or your foundation is sinking...good luck.

Is it new or has it been there for the last 30 years? If it just happened then call a contractor asap. If its old then simply repair the crack by using mesh tape and drywall compound.

call a couple contractors in your area to come out and give you some advice on what you need to think about doing and how much it is going to cost .... maybe it will not take more then some new mudding and taping (sheetrock repair) to fix it .....also you might check with your local historical homes society and see if it can qualify as one (if so you can get grants each year for upkeep, repairs, etc.)

Contact a building inspector and they will either fix it or give you the proper person to contact to have it fixed.
