It depends how many you have. If you have a lot, you may be able to sell them in bulk on eBay. If you only have a few, say a couple hundred or less, I would suggest giving them away to a kid who likes baseball. It's a lot better than just throwing them away.
It will also depend, of course, which players you have in there. I believe 88-89 was a lousy year for rookies, but 1990-1992 had a few good ones including Pedro Martinez.

Put them in a box and save them, granted they arent worth much now but you never know. In 1978 I went to a card shop, a new innovation at the time and pulled out a Steve Carleton and Bob Uecker Rookie card out of a common bin...my cost...twenty cents.
In 1986 I went by a store that was selling sports packs at a nickel a pack....I bought 240 packs of 1986-87 Fleer basketball cards for $12.00. You just never know what will come from them...just because they are one cent commons right now dont mean they will be in 10 yrs

At the very least, keep ALL the rookie cards and some of the early career cards, and future hall of famers.
Keep an eye out for Griffy, Sheffield, Randy Johnson, Barry Bonds, McGuire, just to name a few off the top of my head.
Some more advice, don't put a rubber band around them. store them in nice dry place and away from the sun. They sell some nice cardboard storage boxes at most card shops. Personally, I go one step further, I bought some nice plastic protectors that keep the card from sliding around and betting damaged.
The condition of your cards will GREATLY determine their resale value.

If you are just trying to make some room I recommend donating them to the children's wing of your local hospital.
