There are clear differences in UK between the law England and Wales and Scotland, where I practise.

In England and Wales the age of consent is clearly set at 16 years. At this age there is no question of needing parental consent.

In Scotland a GP has to ensure that the girl in front of him is capable of understanding and giving her consent. If he is satisfied that she understands the implications of her actions he can prescribe. This is probably valid down to the age of 12 years.

If the GP is unhappy to prescribe it is still unlikely that he would ever contact her parents, as the girl still has, at some level a right to privacy. he would attempt to persuade her to discus things with her parents.

It is of course an offence to have sex with a girl under 16 years, however when girls come to see GPs for contraception they are almost always already sexually active anyway.

It is my practise to advice these girls that their partners are committing an offence and could be imprisoned, I try hard to find the age of the male partner, also try to convince them to talk to their parents.

Overall if I am convinced the girl knows what she is doing, is consenting, and her partner appears to be of a similar age and there is no impression of abuse I will prescribe the pill.

I take each patient as she comes, sometimes the conversation is long and stressful for both of us. I have both given and refused prescriptions, I can't be certain either decision was always correct. Fortunately I have not yet ever been faced with a girl whose relationship was an abusive one. If it ever occurred I would find it very difficult to put aside patient confidentiality and contact police or social services. I am aware that one day I may have to do this.

In the UK u can go on the contraceptive pill without parents consent at as young an age as 12! There isnt really a specified age although we have to be sensible here.

As to your second question, I am in 2 minds about it so I cannot really answer that.

i got it when i was 15, i remember asking the doctor if he would tell my parents he told me what i disscused with him was confidential,my parents never found out, some parents turn a blind eye to their childrens sexual activity as they do not like the thought of it, and dont really know what to say, i dont think a parent should know all the details of their childrens sex life, but if they are aware they could give their child valuable information on contraception, diseases and the emotional aspect of a sexual relationship

Age 16 and under children are legally attached to their parents so if they get abused, the parent will be questioned why they did not look out for them. After 16 then the person is sexually an adult.

that sucks..i don't be responsive to.. could be you may desire to pass without the pill for a month and notice if something differences? i could pass with Maple Leaf's answer, ask a pharmacist or your gynecologist i've got been on the pill Yasmin for 5 years rapidly (I could desire to for well being reasons) and that i've got in no way experienced any area outcomes, i've got been to a number of gynecologists and that i've got been advised it became into the pill with the backside dose and the least area outcomes. its meant to be a great option for females who experience unfavourable outcomes from different oral contraceptives because of the fact it incorporates drospirenone, notwithstanding it is lol. extra suited to invite your well being practitioner however desire u get extra suited!
