I used to work for that company. and my father had several Loadstar trucks. Most likely it is the 304 cu in motor. that is what was in most 1600's being the lightest of that series (1600,1700,1800). That would be the standard engine. there was an optional 345 ci engine which looked identical (almost) being same bore and just stroked out. It had a slightly higher - maybe 1/4 inch cylinder deck height (center of crank to top of deck) because of the longer stroke. There was a larger yet version in that family and it was the 392 cu in. it had a 4 barrel carb on it. I don't think (?) it was available in the 1600 - but it might have been. This was a bored out version of the 345 and they all look visually similar. Look around on the block and you may see "304" or "345". somewhere. all firing orders the same. the "C1" number is the Internatiional part number for the manifold. the intake manifolds would be different for all three engines. if you called a dealer with that number they could probably tell you right away which engine you have. also realize that 30 year old trucks are likely to have anything in them. There was a smaller version of the engine - a 266 (shorter stroke 304) but i don't think it was in production in 1978. Not to say you couldn't get one in a junk yard. That engine went into production in the early 60's (i think) and ran into the 90's. Today the company is "International Truck and Engine" - and i think they are all diesel. it was quite simply called "the small V8". (they had a BIG V8 that went into the 500 ci range)

These trucks had two engine options and they are almost identical from the out side.
345 V8, and the 392 V8. The 392 usually had a 4 barrel carb.
