I like sharing information and giving people resources to follow up on. If they are interested, they will follow up. If they don't, well, I didn't invest myself too much in the outcome of letting them know the resource. Help people help themselves and then let them sprout wings.

I like to help people as much as possible. It can be something small like a smile at someone or something large, like volunteering with habitat for humanity or even driving 20 hrs in one day to help a guy out.
When asked why I do it, I'm hard pressed to come up with an answer. It makes me feel good.. sometimes. Waking up early saturday mornings doesn't (since I live in a party town). But seeing the house we built with a moving truck out front does.
I really prefer the smaller things. Making people smile simply by opening a door. Or complimenting a shirt. It goes really far.

I really enjoy helping people. I've heard alot of people say that they won't give money to panhandlers because they "know" that they will use the money on drugs, but I "know" that they will spend at least a small portion of it on food, and as long as they are eating, there is hope that they will one day recover from their addiction.

[2:178] It is not righteousness that you turn your faces to the East or the West, but truly righteous is he who believes in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Book and the Prophets, and spends his money out of love for Him, on the kindred and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and those who ask for charity, and for ransoming the captives; and observes prayer and pays the Zakat; and those who fulfil their promise when they have made one, and the patient in poverty and afflictions and the steadfast in the time of war; it is these who have proved truthful and it is these who are truly God-Fearing.

helping others is one of the most essential things we can do. it enables us pass on what we learned to those who are to come. it promotes good will and a sense of well-being and comaradie among the species. Helping enables us to understand others needs and how to address them. it reminds us ,we were helped as children when we couldn,t help ourselves and if we,re lucky the children will help us one day.

It's better to teach a man how to fish than to give him a fish unless he's starving to death, in which case give him the fish dinner first and then teach him how to fish.
