it's both. i'm a prep, but a classic one. REAL preps are very into doing well in school. most go to boarding schools or some kind of college prep school. they have rigorious academic schedules and work hard during the day. preps are also very social. they have a great circle of friends and love spending time with them.

their attire contains polos-collars popped, loafers and other flats, sweaters-especially argyle, headbands, khakis or classic fit jeans, etc. they are well put together.

the prep that people get confused with are today's preps. they are the snotty ones who shop at abercrombie and hollister. abercrombie is no longer prep though. it was back in the 80's, but preppies don't dress in kinky abercrombie clothes, they wear timeless pieces. preps aren't snobs, they are hard-working students who DO come from families who are "well-off" but they aren't all bad people.

It's both because I dress preppy but that doesn't make me a prep since I don't act preppy. A lot of people in my school dress preppy but only a handful of people is labeled as " the preps." Such people get the straight "A's", are in a lot of extracurricular activities, and have a bubbly, stuck up personality.

Preppy can be BOTH!

Style wise, preppy is for example, collared shirts, cashmere sweaters, khaki pants, fashion frames, etc. Some stores for the preppy look: The Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic

You can also act preppy meaning you are really into your studies but also have a active social life, for example, being involved in sororities.

Both the style and the personality of "preppy" is so cute to me. And definitely "in".

Preppy is how you act and your style.Such as you can act hyper and all peped up and that is being Preppy as in how you act.Or you could look all cute and sweet and your style in that way could be Preppy.Hope I helped.

I think that it is both. Acting preppy is really more about caring about how you look, like not wearing all black(because that is just bad taste for one and you look like a goth person) to a friends party because you know its going to be a lively happy party.
You can dress preppy by shopping at Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie, Abercrombie & Fitch and stores like that.

There is both. You can dress preppy like abercrombie and hollister. Then there is attitude preppy like being a snob and stubborn. I dress preppy but do NOT act like it!

I have never heard of someone acting preppy. I have seen people dress preppy, especially in the 1980s. Preppies could act snooty but it was their clothing choices that made them preppy. You can be snooty and dress goth. You can't be a preppy and dress goth.

It's a little bit of both. Preps usually wear polo shirts and brands like Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Hollister, Lily Pulitzer, and Ralph Lauren. Also, preps like to go to country clubs and stuff, listen to the "popular" music, and are vvery well groomed.
