The earth is getting warmer at this time, but we don't truly have a full understanding of why and how. It is probably true that humans contribute to it. The extent and urgency of the situation are often greatly exaggerated. It will need to be addressed within the next 100 years or so.
Has it occurred to anybody that the some important answers to this will probably come out of the coming global war? Major wars in modern times are always extremely fertile grounds for technological and medical advancement....

It is definitely real, no doubt about it, but the facts that are presented in many places, including "An Inconvenient Truth," the liberal propaganda piece of trash that it was, are untrue.
A member of my family is a scientist studying the changes in the climates and global warming, and I have done a fairly extensive research paper on it, if anyone really wants to challenge me.
First, no, humans did not cause it, we expedited it. The planet has perpetually been going through a heating-cooling process that has gone from prehistoric times to the ice age, to the little known "Little Ice Age" in the medieval time period. The Earth heats itself and then goes through a cooling process to correct itself, and vice versa.
The greenhouse effect has only expedited this process. The chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) that are produced in this process have been multiplied because of the fuel emissions and pesticides mainly.
Also, despite what many people say, there is nothing we can do to stop this. We can slow down the process by following the Kyoto Protocol, but we cannot stop global warming, it is inevitable

As a side-note, yes Al Gore should return his Oscar. It made me sick to see him get rewarded for a documentary that wasn't based on facts as much as it was based on the Democratic agenda.

Actually, I think that global warming is over rated as a threat. If you look at history the earth has been through several warming and cooling cycles over the millions of years it has been here.
In my opinion, mankind has added to it over the years, but I don't think there is much we can do about it in the short run. It will take a worldwide effort over several years to make any difference and that simply is not going to happen.

I think it is false. Sunspots have doubled in the past five years. Backin the 1930s the ice caps were as big as the shrink caps we have know and the carbon levels were higher in the 1970s during a period people thought the world was going through global cooling. To me there is too much reasonable doubt. Also correlation doesn't imply causation

While global warming IS real, there is NO evidence that it is caused by man.
The Earth has gone through multiple cooling and warming cycles throughout the ages. I seriously doubt that anything done by cave men caused the end of the last ice age.

It's just scaremongering. This man-made global warming stuff is just junk science.
The earth goes through warming and cooling cycles. Thirty years ago the tree-huggers were screaming about global cooling.

The period of global warming that we are currently experiencing is real, and it is caused by man. The earth does go through periods of heating and cooling, but what is happening now is happening way faster than ever in the past. Those who say that it is not happening are in a serious case of denial.

before I did not beleive it was - but now I do! you only have to see the films taken at the pole to see how fast the ice is melting!
I am in London and only today on the news, they said, that it has been the warmest 6 months on record!
we all need to turn off excess lights and not leave our tv's etc on standby - if we all do a little then maybe we can make a difference!
