The way I see it, he can't lose in free agency. If he has an MVP type season, he's guaranteed to get a bigger contract on the free agent market. If he has a great playoffs, Yankees will be in on the bidding and his next contract will be out of this world. But, even if he has a bad season and a bad playoffs, I think, in this market, he could still make more money with a new contract from some team. I really don't see any scenario in which he continues his current contract. Just wondering what other fans think. Please, if you don't know anything about A-Rod's contract, move on.

Also, UNLESS he has a tremendous playoffs, he will never be a Yankee again. IMO

no I don't think so. No matter what he does this season, opting out is his best option, even if he does resign with the yankees. you are absolutley right that he can't lose in free agency. I don't see any scenario where a new contract will be worth less money, per year - not the life of the contract, than what he has now. There are only a few teams that would be able to afford him, but the bidding war to get him will be brutal - especially if he plays well in the playoffs.

This is really hard,I'v been trying to figure this out since i found out he has an out clause in his contract after this yr.Now he can go either way ,if he has an MVP season and we win another world series,NY will finally embrace him,he gets his ring, and now he's at a point were he can call the shots,Because he can say he made it in Ny,Belive me he had a slew of offers this off season
But didn't leave BC he would have always had it in the back of his head he didn't make it in NY,I Think he stays if we win this yr.
Now i really feel if he has a bad yr this yr,,He will move on,I don't think he will stay in Ny if he has another bad yr,,I really don't think Mentally he can take it,,So if we win,he stays,,if we lose he's gone.

It depends on his season. If he has a great season he will use that as a bargaining chip against Cashman and Steinbrenner and re-negotiate the contract for big money. If he has a poor season I think he'll jump ship to another team to avoid any additional criticism from the NY media.

In my opinion, he would be a fool NOT to opt out.
I know The Rangers are paying a portion of contract, and would have to pay less if he went the FA market.

I believe Boras is his agent? Alex would do himself a huge favor by going via the FA market.

But, other than NY, who would pay him that kind of money?
(NOT complaining about your payroll, I am just making an observation).

I think alot of it would have to do with how well he plays in this year's post season. He really needs to step up in October if he hopes to garner another huge contract.

He would stay if:
1. Morons stop booing him.
2. Jeter wakes up and lets Arod play SS.

Since neither of things will happen Arod is gone.
