I've had wonderful luck with HP. I love their support as well. My 3.5 year old HP laptop is still running like a charm & I use it heavily. I'm going to buy a new HP laptop this summer just because I want a faster duo core processor. HP is offering a trade in program where I can actually get about $200 or $300 form my old laptop in the trade up.

Had a problem with a Dell when the hard drive trashed. You have a horrible time getting the drive out to get the data off of it because they weld the drive into the tray.

The Toshiba Satellite is the best laptop on the market. It has great capabilities and can handle any of today's PC software and hardware. The prices of satellites are also coming down, making them a a better buy.

You have asked a highly debatable question. Most every company has their own ups and downs. I work in IT at a Global company and have seen several brands. Toshiba's are usally high tech, but somewhat fragile. My opinion is to go with HP/Compaq, and prefer the Compaq types (non pavillion). Lenovo (previously IBM) Thinkpads are also great notebooks but kind of pricy.

You can get Dells for good prices at gotapex.com. I got an inspiron e1500 for about $750, and I had to upgrade to get that. dells are very customisable (if thats a word) and if you get an online coupon, they can be very well-priced. they also have good customer service. if you can wait till July or August, that is when they are really well-priced. they are also shipped very quickly
