Oprah said, "If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don't ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school.

because more people are in need in africa. The US has many public schools that people can go to for free and also the US citizens are in much better shape than the Africans. The Africans struggle with AIDS and diseases on a daily bases and have maybe 2 or so schools in a certain area and those schools are not very good with supplies and buildings.

people in africa cherish an education more than the people in the u.s. u know its true, if you talk to any teenager, almost all of them would say they hate school and don't want to go to school. american kids don't cherish an education like the kids in africa. and they have to pay to go to school over there. some of those girls will walk 20 minutes to the school bus stop when they have a chance of being raped. i don't know a lot of people who would do that for school. they have been through something too, most of them don't have there parent(s). some americans just throw there education away. oprah said she would build one her but, she sees that american kids won't cherish that.

She said that if you asked children in South Africa what they wanted, they would say they wanted books so that they could go to school and get an education so that they could became something like a doctor. And if you asked children in the US, they would say they wanted an IPOD or to became famous so that they could have money.

Public schools are available to all children in the United States. In Africa there are no public schools, and some children cannot go to school because their parents have no money to pay for schooling.

she was on ellen the other day and said that the reason behind it was that girls in other countries were made to pay for their education after a certain age/grade. therefore she choose africa (i guess because of her roots). if u did notice its an all girl academic school...

I have no idea...there are plenty of kids in the US that would love to go to a good school--many people here (Americans, sadly) don't realize that not everyone has the same opportunities life has to offer...

better publicity, which I find ironic considering they need better houses and health care which would have served a better purpose.and what about the Katrina victims that are rebuilding a new school would have done wonders. It seemed these days that doing something to a third war and poverty driven country is the equivalent to the new prada bag.
