I suspect that I have those silver amalgam fillings (read: mercury, got them 15 years ago) and I'd like to try oil pulling.

What would happen to the fillings? Would they wear away slowly, or pop out?

Do not answer if you're an apologist for "conventional" medicine. I'm looking for serious answers. I personally know of people who have done oil pulling and they claim it works.

First, I had too look up oil pulling. This has the appearance of a classic "alternative health" scam. You should seriously think about avoiding this as there a plenty of testimonial that take about serious side effects. With that said, i can't image swishing vegetable oil around your mouth could be very harmful, but I also can't imagine it would do anything positive. Beware of any therapy that claims to work by "removing toxins". The main risk to these type of bogus therapies, is that the delay people from addressing their health issues with legitimate therapies.

Always ask what toxins? Very few diseases are cause by "toxins". Those few that are caused by toxins are not gonna be helped by swish oil in you mouth.

I would not imagine that putting vegetable oil in you mouth would harm your fillings.

While I do not agree that oil "swishing will harm your fillings" you need to visit a dentist who specializes in this remove the amalgam and get a professional opinion. I had mine done in the 80's and I was the first patient who had asked for this proceedure. At the time my dentist thought I was a little "odd" but did it, He then went to special seminars on removal of amalgam and became quite an expert and recommended removing the fillings and using a less volitile substance. It greatly improved my health.

I don't see how swishing oil in your mouth will make the fillings come out. If you've been eating with these filling in your mouth for 15 years I doubt that oil will dislodge them. Besides, if it did happen, wouldn't you want the fillings out anyway?
