Never ever buy a Rover. They went bust a couple of years ago, so if you are looking at new cars, your Rover has been sitting in a parking lot for a couple of years at least. The Panda is a much better little car.

However, you should look broader and go and buy a Suzuki Swift which for the same money is probably the best car in its class.

You say "Fiat Panda has also caught my eye with its simplicity"

Actually the Panda is the higher-tech of the two. It is a more modern design (the City Rover is a re-badged Tata Indica, first introduced to the less-demanding Indian market in 1997, and was received poorly then). The Panda has more features, better reliability, better practicality, better ride, handling and refinement, better resale values and greater resale demand.

The Panda competitors worth considering are the Kia Picanto and Toyota Aygo (or virtually identical Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1), not the City Rover.

If you buy a city rover, be aware rover buy them from TATA, double the cost and sell to you. They are unpleasant tinny little blobs. The fiat panda will hold it's resale value better, there are more dealerships around, it just generally has a better quality feel. Also, the range of engines/trim levels is richer.

Test drive both, then wait a few days. If unsure - test drive again. If the dealer gets impatient and pushes, back away. Never rush buying a car, as a new one could easily set you back £10k. Wouldn't want to regret spending that!

The Fiat Panda has a much better build quality and is just by far a better, sturdier, safer car. The City Rover is made in India out of shiney hairdressers chairs. Ask Top Gear.

On a more practical note, the Panda has a much better depreciation rate, is more reliable and apparently (I haven't driven a City Rover myself) is a much better car to drive.

i would say that even though rover are my favorite car, the city rover is somthing to stay away from. They are made in india and they try to sell it to people for almost double the price.
The fiat panda...nice looking car, good build quality, good name, but they are VERY SLOW indeed.
My choise whould be the fiat panda, even though Ilove rover sooo much, but to be honist, but if you want a tiny bit more power then the rover. but if it was my chioce then the panda. the city rover is the only bad rover they ever made, all the rest are amazing and good for money.

so buy the panda

Fiat panda by far the better buy. If you by the Rover you will lose money big time they are cheap Indian Tata vehicles bought in a desperate attempt to keep Rover going and they failed miserably

I never thought I'd say this but the Fiat will be the better car as it has far superior dealer back-up (mainly because Fiat are still in business, unlike Rover).

I used to work at MG-ROVER until closure, let me tell you through personal knowledge that i WOULD NOT touch a city Rover, not even if you bought me one..they are made in PUNE (INDIA) by the TATA company and most definately are very very substandard. hope that helps.

please raise your sights a bit as the two cars you are thinking of are out and out chunk, if i was to list my reasons for that statement i would be typing all night. Have a look at other manufactures even if you have to go a year or so older to be able to afford it. I am not exaggerating as i am a mechanic and have to work on this type of junk on times.
