I mean, if there was a constant humming, (at an acceptable pitch that would be easy to ignore after a while) wouldn't that enable better concentration in there (by the way, im referring to uni libraries where there's loads of people studying). Cos when im in a library i always get distracting by someone eating crisps, or knocking things over, or zipping things up.... and im pretty sure after a while you would forget about the humming sound... and it would just seem like complete silence. So... good idea? Can i patent it?

Too late, I'm patenting it now, thanks for the idea!

Personally, I would find it very annoying. I don't think you could find a pitch that would be easy to ignore after a while. If I can hear it, it's going to annoy me. For example, there was a grocery store that I never went to because their lights were loud. I don't know how to describe it except by saying that the sound coming from their lights would drive a man to drink.

Sounds like it might benefit some people, and drive others insane. I would be one of those driven insane.
