He may "pass" Hank Aaron's total of 755, but to the true baseball fan, he will never "break the record." Stop hiding your head in the sand! Steroids is the issue and he is guilty of taking them. He is a cheater, liar, and lets Greg Anderson do his jail time for him. What kind of a scum bag would let that happen? You forget that they was the body lotion incident. The steroid cream that he "didn't know that it was a steroid".
Eventually he WILL be found guilty and when that day comes he should be banned for life from the game. No hall of fame for "Steroid Boy".

It's going to be close, but I don't think he'll make it.
1) Barry is turning 43 this year, and plays on a NL team, so he can't just DH. He played 130 games last year, I really doubt he'll be healthy for more this year, and there's a very good chance he'll play less. Stats typically decline as players age, especially power. If he becomes a defensive liability, the Giants may need to "rest" him a lot more.
2) Pitchers will continue to pitch around Bonds. The Giants line-up is looking pretty thin, although they might play some solid small-ball. Expect to see Barry have a lot more 0-for-2, two walk nights again this season.
I'd put the over/under right around 20 home runs, in 100-odd games.

Barry Bonds will undoubtly break the record this year
Even after all the drama he is still one of the top three hitters in baseball. He will take his walks and pending injury; he will get his at bats. The new Giants manager is already predicting he will start in the all star game. Yes he breaks the record this year.

Yes he will break the record. He needs 22 home runs. And if he plays 150 to 160 games and is healthy the whole season he will hit 25-30 games. Plus he plays in the NL West.

Barry will pass Hank Aaron this season. He only needs 21 home runs to do it. In his career, he has hit fewer than 21 homers in onle three seasons. The second reason is that baseball wants him to break teh record. How many tickets do you think his steroid controversy is selling?? Booo Barry or cheer Barry, lots of people still buy tickets to see him play!!
Oh yeah, ebay also wants the auction fees from the lucky fan who catches the ball and sells it...LOL

Steroids has EVERYTHING to do with this answer, home boy. He's a cheater and has been for years. If he breaks this record, there should be a gigantic ASTERISK next to his name that denotes (Barry was a heavy steroid user throughout the majority of his career). What a waste of a person that mother f&*(%$ is. Such a disgrace to baseball. I hope his balls fall off.

Even with few at bats he probably will although I think hes a cheat and doesn't deserve it. 22 home runs is not that many even though Bonds isn't what he use to be juiced and unjuiced. My only hope is he doesn't sign his contract or hurts himself and cant play. Can you tell I cant stand him! BTW he did use steroids he just saying he didn't "knowingly" do so! so your steroids remark means nothing

Barry ADMITTED to doing hgh's!! He said he thought it was "oil", but it was the "cream and clear" that turned Giambi into a medical disaster a few years ago.
So it is FACT that he is on a form of steroid. It is also fact that if you compare a picture of him last year to one when he played with the Pirates then it is pretty hard to argue that his HEAD grew! That just does not happen naturally. You can add a double chin, but you can't add length to that cap holder!
Will he break it? Probably. Will ESPN tell us that we should cheer. Of course they will. But I believe that most of America will boo this man. And they should. He is a cheat and fraud. His jealousy over Big Mac and Sammy in the mid 90's turned this ego-freak into a physical monster. Add his overall bad attitude to begin with, and tell me - how could you possibly cheer for this guy??

In "name" he will almost surely break it. He will (as always) be playing for HIMSELF and not the Giants. He was signed BECAUSE he will break it. He will break it even if he has to swing for the fences at every pitch and hit .150
Regardless, of what the record books and numbers may say after 2007, I will nonetheless consider Aaron to be the all-time home run King.

Given his recent HR production, I think that he will hit number 756 sometime this year provided he stays healthy.
On a side note, I think that his surpassing of Hank Aaron might be a little tainted. He should be more forthcoming about his habits if he would like to keep from having the proverbial asterisk next to the record.
