You can install any harddisk from any company, it only has to have the right connector.

Lukly there are only two kind of connectors, sata and pata.

pata are used in older notebooks, brand new ones have sata.

Just take out your old harddrive, and look at the connector.
If it looks like that ( http://geizhals.at/img/pix/173547.jpg ) its sata, if it has blank pins standing out (like in this picture: http://geizhals.at/img/pix/174002.jpg ) its a pata (also just called ide) harddrive.

As long as the harddrive is the same size, what you will need to do is get the specific holder for your hard drive. There is a piece of metal that laptop harddrives screw into, that then pops into and is then screwed into the drive bay. People think it's not compatible if it doesn't fit, but it won't fit if you don't use this step.

Once you attach/screw in the hard drive to that metal frame/casing then it will be compatible in you computer. I would assume you need to buy this company that produces your computer, but you could ask if they are sold elsewhere. I know even within the same company, I had 2 different laptop models and to use one HD I had to change the chasing as what fit in one didn't fit in the other. But it worked perfectly fine once I changed it!

Good luck

If the connector ports match.

I had bought a hard drive made by Toshiba for my Satellite laptop but it didn't work because the way it connected was different. It has to be made for the model of laptop you're using to make sure the connector ports match.

If it is from the same company I don't see why you couldn't install it

Depends. Check your manual for compatibility. And you don't want to void your warranty, or do you?
