How can I cut snippets from my "Home Dvd" collections and save them as little mini files?

I copied all my home vhs collection onto dvd recently. Now I want to take snippets of those dvds and add them to a story/picture movie that I am making. Anyone know the easiest way to do this please?

You need a good editing software. This can be quite expensive. Sony vegas is a good one
