I think when they say he is supposed to be like a 3.5 month old, they are talking about development, like cognitive and physical abilities, not necessarily size. Doctors have a growth chart and they track babies along that, most babies consistently track along the same line. For example my daughter has always been on the small side and tracks at below the 10th percentile. My friend's daughter tracks at the 95th percentile. They are both considered healthy. What Dr.'s look at is if they drastically change what percentile they track at from one visit to the next. If your Dr. didn't tell you your baby is too big, then most likely he's not. However you can ask at his next appt. or phone in to ask if you are really concerned.

Thats not too big at all. It is a big baby, but not unhealthy. I was 11 pounds 2 ounces and 24 inches long as a newborn. I was over 30 pounds at a year old. I was never overweight though, just really big. Usually if there is a problem with your childs size, the doctor will say something. If you are concerned, ask his doctor on the next well baby visit which should be coming up next month.
Congratulations on your son!! Hope everything works out.

My son is also not quite 5 months old. He weighs 19 pounds and is 27 inches long-at the top of the growth charts, but since he is proportional the doctor said he was fine.

My baby will be 5 months this week and he is 21 lbs. 1 oz. and is 28 inches long... He is on the high percentile for both his weight and length... I asked the doctor if she thought his weight is healthy and she said that as long as his length is on the high percentile as well he is fine.. so I wouldn't worry too much.. They check the baby's sugar levels when they are born and if the doctor thought that your baby is too heavy they'd tell you.. make sure he is eating the right amount for his age though, thats all that really matters that he's healthy! so just enjoy your baby to the fullest..

My little guy was 20 pounds at 5 months and is just fine now. He's 3 years old and weighs 33 pounds. He's pretty tall for his age and looks very lean. If you are feeding them nutritious food, then no worries. He'll "even out" with time.

I in basic terms gained 8lbs (had intense morning sickness the completed being pregnant) yet so i did not extremely "show" in any respect. I keep in mind telling the objective cashier and a few females in line that i replace into using have a newborn that day (i replace into brought about each and every week later) and that all of them regarded at me like i replace into loopy because of the fact i did not show. whilst my infant replace into born he replace right into a reasonably super boy- 8lbs 3oz and that they had had to interrupt his shoulder to get him by using my pelvis even. anybody concept i replace into going to have a runt infant considering that I wasn't even looking pregnant yet they have been incorrect! as quickly as he replace into born i replace into 30lbs lighter than I have been in the previous the being pregnant so i think of because of the morning sickness I in basic terms lost weight from being pregnant.

i think my son was 16lbs at a year..i'd get him in for some bloodwork, make sure his sugars are ok.
he may be fine, but talk to your dr if you are worried
AND, your son is five months old. You count from the day he was born. Not from when he was 'due'.
