umm, to Destinee ... how can you say you made lots of flyers showing my name, email, phone number, name, age, rates, and my experiences with kids and then post something (that you most likely got off a website & didn't read) that says "Don't ever advertise. Anyone could take your name or number. Not all people have good intentions." ??

anyway, to answer your question, usually, by the age of 13, your parents can legally leave you alone in the home, so that should be a good age to start your own babysitting business. the best thing to do is to advertise w/ friends and family, and have them spread the word. you want to make sure you are sitting children of people whom you trust, as well as that trust you. you want to build a good repore so that they will give a good word about your skills & that way you will have more "work." as for charging, you should probably charge per child, per hour ... so if it's just one child, $5-7 an hour would be good, but two children, $7-10, three or more ... from the same parents ... you could charge a flat rate, cause chances are it would be too expensive to charge per child at that point, so you can do like $30-40 for a few hours. If you want to make flyers, which I don't advise, don't give too much info, other than your name & email & make sure your email account doesn't have your personal info attached to it, say if it's a yahoo acct, make sure it's set to private & that your full name isn't on there. You never want to give too much info to strangers.

I am not sure what the age is to babysit in Maryland, but for most its 13-14. I started babysitting at the age of 13.

To let other people know that I was babysitting, I made lots of flyers showing my name, email, phone number, name, age, rates, and my experiences with kids.

Finding Work

To find work when you're getting started, ask around. Maybe your neighbors or others you know have heard of sitting jobs. When looking for wokr, be careful:

*Don't ever advertise. Anyone could take your name or number. Not all people have good intentions

* Don't sit for people you don't know or who haven't been recommended. Babysitting fr strangers you don't know could be risky if you know nothing about them.

*Meet with family before agreeing to babysit for them. Even if you are referred by someone you know, you may not like the situation in the home or attidude of the parents, or you may just not feel right about it. If so, don't take the job.

Above are some helpful tips while looking for a job, I got these tips at my babysitting course.

My Rates

1-2 kids ~ $5.00/hour
Each additional child ~ $1.25/hour

*When you are babysitting a baby under 10 months old, you should ask to be paid a bit more than your regular charge, since you must give more attention, change the baby, feed the baby, and put the baby to bed.

Have Fun! Be Safe!
