First off, it's Fahrenheit.

As of the conversion, c = 5(f - 32)/9, where c is Celsius and f is Fahrenheit. Substituting,

c = 5(50 - 32)/9 = 5 * 18/9 = 10

So, 50 °F = 10 °C.

Formula for Fahrenheit to Celsius is 5/9 (five ninths) * (Fahrenheit temp -32 degrees)... so 5/9 * (50-32) = 5/9 (18) = 10 degrees Celsius.

This is some easy arithmetic:

°F = (9/5)*°C + 32

°C = (5/9)* (°F - 32)

So, for 50°F:

°C = (5/9)*(50-32) = (5/9)* 18 = 90/9 = 10°C
