to steal someones email password just by knowing their email and not having any physical contact with their computer?

Yes it is possible. However since you asked the question you are not ready to achieve that skill.

What - rlh242424 - is trying to say is, yes it's theoretically possible but INCREDIBLY difficult and DANGEROUS without the right skills. You see if you have someones e-mail address:

Say johnny@yahoo.com - you know the host of said e-mail is yahoo, so in essence you know you've got to break into yahoos security database and find said persons password. Which, considering yahoos level of security protection would be incredibly difficult.

So - let's just say it's possible with a VERY HIGH probability for failure and/or arrest because you're hacking. - Better to try and sneak it away from someone - put a key logger on your computer or something and have them check their e-mail on YOUR computer. That's the best way...sneaky...underhanded...but the best way.

Search google for "Key logger" - put it on your PC, invite them over for something, then tell them you sent them an important e-mail and they need to check it (Obviously you will have to send them an e-mail ahead of time) - then BOOM the pass. is yours.
