There are three true contenders for this in my opinion,
Deron Williams of Utah, who has transformed into one of the best passing point gaurds in the game and has helped Utah become a contender.
Kevin Martin of Sacramento, who has stepped up his scoring big in the absence of some key players, but the teams record is pretty bad so that will count against him
David Lee of NY, he was a nobody last year, no he is becoming a formidable rebounder and puts up a double double consistently. He is a big reason that the Knicks are playing better as of late.
Between those three I give it Deron Williams since his team is a contender and he has been big in helping Utah maintain its strong play with injuries to their big three players

Eddy Curry or David Lee. Eddy is having the best season of his career and he's emerging as one of the top centers. David Lee is finally getting a chance to shine, because last year Larry Brown never let him play last year. I think Eddy should win Most Improved Player and David Lee should win Sixth Man of the Year. In fact, the reason Isiah Thomas hasn't started David Lee more is because he knows Lee has a chance to win the Sixth Man Award, and there's a limit on how many games a player can start in order to be eligible for the award.

Kevin Martin is sure to garner his share of votes for Most Improved, based on the fact he's bumped up his scoring average 10 points per game to 20.8, butmy vote goes to Dallas' Josh Howard. The distinction, in my mind, is that Howard ratcheted up his scoring to 19.8 ppg and rebounding to 7.2 rpg on a talented and winning squad, while not seeing his overall playing time go up much. Martin, meanwhile, is getting 36.0 minutes of burn a night for the Kings this season, after only playing 26.6 mpg a season ago. Howard has continued to grow and get better in each of his four NBA seasons, and it's time to reward
don't forget about Carlos Boozer

The entire season it's only been between 2 guys
You got one of them right in Martin and the other guy is Monta Ellis from Golden State improving from 6.8 points to 17.3 which is an 10.5 point jump compared to Martin's 10 point jump
Ellis improved from 41% shooting to 47%, 1.6 assists to 4.2 and .6 steals to 1.5

Martin is a great suggestion.
However, I would have to say Emeka Okafor. Oh wait, you said most improved... I had comeback player on the brain.
Matt Carroll fits the bill as well (from zilch to about what Martin had last year), but I'll go with your pick, Martin.

Not doubt about it, Deron Williams, he's turned the Utah Jazz into a legitimate contender. The way he's played against the top teams this year from last is unbelievable. He's learned to dictate tempo. His stats are up across the board and he's easily one of the top 5 legitimate point guards in the league. Second only to Nash in assists and his team is rolling.

I could care less for the Utah Jazz, but i would have to say Carlos Boozer. The stats prove it.
