My mom has a 2001 neon 2.0 sohc, auto, a/c loaded. She told me that the car smells like gas usually in the morning after being used the day before. If she doesn't use it over the weekend and goes to drive it Monday morning it doesn't smell. Also the car idles a little rough but works fine otherwise and it leaks a bit of coolant. The car only has 70,000 kilometers and is driven minimally.

I am going to see the car tomorrow and I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some pointers as to what to look for.

Right now i'm thinking blown head gasket or a messed up injector...

Thanks guys, and girls

Sounds like a cyalinder or two are not firing that would account for smell of gas and rough idle. Is it an efi system if so throttle position sensor may be going. Best bet take it down and have a diagnostic ran on it. Or if you have access to a generioc code reader plug it in and analize the codes it kicks back. Good Luck

i'd have a save verify the completed gasoline line and gasoline transport device beginning with the gasoline rail and dealing returned to gasoline filter out and the gasoline tank alongside with all gasoline traces bec in case you scent gasoline you have gotten a leak except it is flooding out.All verify something coping with the air gasoline mixture issues like the map sensors, idle air administration valve and the canister purge solenoid, pcv valve, gasoline injectors and TPS sensor and so on. You suggested which you changing the plugs yet what on the subject of the wires, additionally you probably did not point out the air filter out the two , additionally be effective the the gasoline tension is actual and that the gasoline filter out is nice.additionally you suggested the EGR valve yet you probably did not point out the transducer that connects as much as the EGR valve by skill of way of vac hoses.in case you probably did replace the EGR valve using a errors code indicating the EGR valve had issues you do not have replaced or fixed or over hauled the splendid area bec the Transducer would reason such codes and the two the EGR valve and Transducer could get replaced mutually. desire that facilitates and better of excellent fortune.by skill of ways if the motor vehicle replace into attempting to cut back out or dies whilst braking unexpectedly or slowing down and so on the transducer is in all probability the reason.be effective to objective the ignition coil and the gasoline tension valve.

check your injectors for any wetness around them, also check all the fuel lines even the ones going to the filter, make sure there all tight. a blown head gasket means the car was driven while it was overheating, see if your oil looks cloudy or your antifreeze has oil in it, if not your head gasket maybe fine.
