dust is microscopic particles floating in the air the come to settle on surfaces. it can come from anywhere. dead skin cells, fibers, minerals, anything. so it is all sorts of colours, depending on the source.

Could quite well be dirt - or to cover all descriptions and use a generally more acceptable word "debris".

It comes in all colours shapes and sizes and shows up on most all coloured surfaces accept perhaps an surface with an identical colour.

It shows up thus because it is usually not an identical colour to the surface it is occupying.

dust is gray... and that's why it looks black on a white surface and white on a black surface....

Probably cos it's halfway in between. cos it's a kinda greyish colour, in contrast it would look white on black and black on white

Most of it is dead skin flakes. So its skin coloured.
