Winning a civil war is like beating your girlfriend until she agrees to stay with you

No one wins a civil war means that in the end, everyone loses. It means that the two sides were unable to compromise, and because of that, people were wounded, not only physically, but emotionally. Families become divided, friends become divided, and as a nation, it takes so long for the healing to begin. Trust in the government is lost, and I believe that that is something that is not wanted, because if there was no trust in the government, anarchy would be able to rear its ugly head. There are no winners, just take a look at America's Civil War. I'm not trying to say that slavery was good, or that I wish it was still in effect, I'm saying that that war tore our nation apart, and there are still parts of the country that are still, unfortunately, living with the same emotions that were alive back then. I hope this helped, at least a little!
Good luck on your project!

A civil war is with people within a country fighting each other as opposed to fighting outside your country. That being said, no one wins cause your essently killing off your own people. The destruction that happens will have to be fixed by you. Also after the fighting stops, if not handled correctly, stuff can get started over and over again.

Take a look at the crusades and the fighting the Arabs had with each other after the last of the 4 caliphs (spelling).

Personally I feel it to be a contradictory statement. I always thought a "civil war" was an oxymoron. If a war is civil, then it isn't really a war. As for someone winning it....that's ridiculous. If everyone is civil then a war wouldn't start , therefore no one can win it!

as with all wars there are no winners both sides have casulaties and losses, this is more true in civil war (war within a country) where you may have relatives on opposing sides and cities and places you know personally destroyed, not to mention having to kill your own people, your own friends and as mentioned relatives.

and when it is all over you are expected to go back to living normally- how can it be noraml when you have people you fought against in your own street, your own town etc

so in the end no one ever wins these wars, they continue for generations, be it a grudge from one family to another or more serious than that. just look at the likes of the former yugoslavia, sudan and other various waring nations...

No one one wins because a civil war is basically one side of a country fighting another side of the same country. The results loss of human life on both sides, damages to property, and the damage to the economy. Even when the winning side wins, the prize would be the spoils of war. Basically you get no gain fighting yourself.

a civil war is a war in a nation!
the best way to look at it is like a man having a conflict upon himself, when he comes to a conclusion he both wins and loses so he really never won or lost to begin with! just that a civil war has a lot of people involved...

It's a good quote, and it makes sense, but then it also doesn't if you think about it, cause one side wants something like land, so they attack for it, then if they win they get what they want.. basically winning..? And the defense people if they win, they get their lives and peace, isn't that winning?

Try the quote:
"All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers"
Good eh?

This is true as you would be fighting your fellow countrymen. Also the term "civil war" is a misnomer because nothing about any war is civil. War spelled backwards is raw which is exactly what war is, raw agression and raw actions to overcome a raw situation. Whether you are for or against warring actions, everyone agrees that war is not a pretty picture.

My opinion is that no one wins a civil war because of all of the deaths, disease and chaos, no one really wins. Both sides have lost so much, that neither side really gains back all of the casualities of the civil war.
