The exhaust stroke has more gaseous volume than the intake stroke due to the exploded liquid fuel.

On the intake stroke, when petrol mixture is fed in, the amount is fixed and on the exhaust stroke, the idea is to evacuate the cylinder as soon as possible. Ideally the whole top should come off completely.

It seems the intake valve needs to be larger because it operates under vaccuum whereas to exhaust valve operates under pressure. The same mass of air has more volume under vaccuum conditions.

Hot gases (exhaust) have more volume than intake gases (cold).
