I just watched it. It's good. I know there is a message there, but I can't define exactly what it is. Any ideas?

We're all interconnected.
A gun exploding in Morrocco had a connection, and in a way, was sort of a consequence of something/someone from the other side of the planet, and will also trigger (no pun intended) events in another side of the planet.
Check out Crash, its very similar to it

the only difference between Crash and Babel is that Crash tried to convey the sense of consequence or cause-and-effect that one stranger's actions can have on another stranger, but in the same city as was its case. Babel however tried to teach the interconnected, like was mentioned, but yet distant relationship that people around the globe have. interconnected because one person's actions on one side of the globe can greatly affect whatever occurs on the opposite side. for example, the babysitter in the united states had to extend her care for the children because the couple was stuck trying to save each other. the distant and separated relationship that we have is the language barriers that impede us from communicating and understanding each other. examples are when Brad Pitt's character is trying to get help, or when the deaf-and-mute girl is struggling inside of herself because of her inability to express her frustration in words. hope that helps to understand the movie's concept, and also to look at other people a little differently.

Communication is the key message. The movie maker stated that he initially intended to show our differences and complications caused by our communication barriers whether they be spoken or sign language which explains the title. He was surprised to find how it is not the barrier it could be.However it also show how we are all connected. I thought the movie's ability to convey it's message without the use of sub titles and most viewers not able to understand over 60% of the dialog was amazing and confirmed the film maker's final assessment.
