When I was in high school (ten years ago), I did a summer program at UC Santa Barbara that was geared specifically for high school students. It was a 6 week session. Classes were real classes with real UCSB students. We lived in the dorms (next to the beach! Ocean-front property, amazing views!). We were supervised, which is actually good. Too much freedom too fast makes a kid do stupid things. Anyway, it was one of the single BEST experiences of my life. I made great friends (my roommate from the program is one of my best friends), and I met the love of my life. I took Econ 1 and College Writing. The classes transferred later. Ultimately, I went to UC Berkeley (As did many of the students in the program, including my man). Anyway, it's 6 weeks away from your folks, hanging out with smart kids. It was great, and I'd recommend it to any promising college-bound student. http://summer.ucsb.edu
But if you must stay in SD, look at open enrollment at UCSD for the summer. Or try extension classes at SDSU. http://www.sdsu.edu or http://www.ucsd.edu
