I gotta tell you, being a professional Hacker is the best job in the world! People pay you (good money :-) ) to break into their networks and tell them how to fix it. It honestly doesn't get any better than that. The best part is that you always feel like you're getting away with something because if a "normal person" was doing this, they'd go to jail! The downside is the learning curve - there's a LOT to know and keep up with. With either a Whitehat or Blackhat hacker, the knowledge is the same, the difference is intentions. Security pros and hackers use the same tools, have the same skills, and read the same information. One thing the Blackhats don't have to worry about is wearing a suit and creating reports, but that's easy.

I think the best place to start with is to read more about the tips and guidelines on the subject. Here are some articles and inform ation.

The Training Camp do a certified ethical hackers course you might want to try. i don;t think there are any hacking-specific qualifications that are industry wide yet, but get a few Microsoft MCPs in security and it shows you know how networks and IT security works.
That course i think is about £1500 for a week's intensive boot camp style training and exams.
Training Camp also do a free half day thing which i went on if you get on their mailing list they can send you details - just gives you an idea of their course.
