OK, lets take a look at a few thing you are not looking at.
1.) I have a 9 Year old daughter, she and many of her school mates do not have the strength or coordination to handle a chainsaw, let alone start it.
2.) I work in a chainsaw shop and from experience, I have seen many a big grown men come hobbling into the shop after they have been in the emergency room come in and buy safety equipment. Even the professional tree cutters don't start a chainsaw with out safety equipment.
3.) There might not be a law in place, but I bet there would be a lawyer at you place in seconds if he was hurt or killed, along with the cops. Even if nothing happened, you could still be charged with child endangerment.
This may be a joke, and I hope it is, but this question is so serious I cannot leave it alone. Anytime you put kids and power equipment together, you are asking for trouble. Please use the head God gave you and think this through before you do anything.

Are you an idiot or do you just sound like one?! How would you like one of the other neighbours to call the cops and have you arrested for child endangerment? This is obviously a made-up "joke" to get people riled up so go ahead and have your little giggle. You already know that no one, not even adults, are supposed to go up a tree with a chainsaw but you figured people would read your question and get all excited and call you names and then you'd laugh to yourself out there in the woods in your trailer soon as you got home from grade seven.

Ummm, Falling trees takes skill. Do you honestly think an 8 year old has the control and precision you might have while operating a motor powered tool? I think you should cut the tree down your self.

That is not a good idea. I wouldn't trust most 30 year olds with a chainsaw, much less an 8 year old.

Sure, he'll be fine. Oh, while you're at it, have him climb up on the roof and clear out those gutters!
