I took the chicken out of the fridge a few minutes ago - still a little frosty from the freezer. There is a slight scent - how can I be sure it is safe to eat?

you should have come over for dinner, i just had the same thing happen to me! mine tasted fine, but i did marinate it. the thing you should be looking for is a film or goo on the chicken. and also check it's texture, bad chicken will usually deteriorate and you can pull it apart (i had boneless chicken cutlets, so if you have a whole one it might be different). yeah mine had a little smell, but when i called my mom (yeah i was a little concerned too), she said that i would know when it's bad. i have great senses so i think i just smelled something, it wasn't too bad, just odd. dinner turned out fine except for my tupperware melting in the microwave.. oh well.. but yeah, if you are still concerned, just throw it out, it's no big deal to go to the store and grab some more..

How slight is the Scent, How much do you value youre Health. How Dear is a Chicken, not very dear now because of fear of Avian Flu, in fact quiet cheap. When in doubt chuck it out . The Supermarkets where I live stay open all night now save Sunday so it is possibly the same in youre part of the World . If youre not careful you could end up in Hospital with Salmonella for two weeks. Chuck it and go and buy a Fresh one.

My best advice is ,if it smells funny to you, don't eat it ! Chicken always smells a little funny anyway, but if it's bad you can tell. It has a strong bad smell!! I've gotten them from the store bad! Thay leave them out too long before they refridgerate them. So if you think it's bad , take it back to the store!

Its probably not safe. I read somewhere that food is actually bad before it shows in any way.. so that means if it has a smell, then it's probably not good. However.. i've taken that chance and cooked with chicken like that.. I didn't get sick, but it didn't taste quite right.

If in doubt - throw it out. You can also call the FDA. They have more specific guidelines. Here is a good website: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/qa-top.html

Check the left-hand side of the screen and click "Food Storage" or "Food Preparation."

Good Luck~
