How do I change the video card in my computer?

Because I just bought the sims 2 and but the video card i have isnt good enough.

Ok, you will need to go online to identify the type of slot the graphics card is in - you have 3 choices - PCI, PCI-E or AGP.

Once you have identified the type of slot - go buy a graphics card. There are 2 main players in the home market - NVidia & ATI. These are the chipset manufacturers & their chipsets are used by a variety of 3rd party manufacturers (like PNY for example).

I would recommend a 256Mbyte card as a minimum. My favorite is NVidia although this is just a personal preference & is not any reason to go out & buy NVidia.

Try some of the online stores - tigerdirect do a good line of video cards & are pretty cheap - I use them a lot & don't have any problems with them.

Once you have your new card, unbolt your pc so you can get to the old one, pull it out & put the new one in. Then install the drivers (they come on a disk with the new card but I would go online & download the latest drivers for your new card).

1) You need to identify what type of video card your computer can rock. You can accomplish this by reading the manuals that came with your computer to see what kind of slot is on your motherboard. They come in three flavors (for the most part) currently, and that's PCI, AGP, and PCI-E. Regular PCI is the worst, and PCI-E is the best.

2) Buy the graphics card.

3) Open up your computer, (by removing twist screws or similar), and install the card. It's easy enough to do yourself, so don't pay Best Buy or anyone to help you.

First go into Control Panel+Appearance and Themes+ Change Screen Resolution+Advanced+Adapter it will tell you the info. Then you must compare you compture by wattage of your power unit, space needed, cost etc. Once you have done your homework on your card then ask about how to put in a new one.
