To nick a horse's tail means to surgically divide and reset the muscles under the tail to create an artificially high tail carriage. It is done to some gaited show horses. It is said to be very painful for the horse.

i think that it is VERY inhumane and people shouldnt do it...a horse is a horse and they are beautiful the way they are... ppl shouldnt make them go through that

They break the bones in the tail and then they use something called a tail set to hold it into the high position.
It is done to Walking horses that show.
Much like pressure shoeing or soring the horses it is also a barbaric thing to do to an animal.

This is why I hate show ppl they do all these special and mean things to animals why can't animals just be animals without out all the fancy show **** come on ppl help the animals love them and treat them like you do you kids would you nick you childs leg or arm to make it look better ???

I have seen horses who have had this done wrong and it looks really bad. I would never do it to any of my horses!!

Considering it's illegal in most breed show disciplines, it's safe to say the majority feel it's inhumane.

This is not allowed. If they get caught, they are in deep doodoo. In fact, I think it may even be illegal.
