i am just curious to hear opinions. i am an avid snake keeper with 4 different types of boas and pythons (six snakes) and i am looking at getting at least one more in the near future. i am experienced with reptiles so ease of husbandry is not important and their general demeanor is of no importance. what is your favorite? and why?????
thanks in advance for input and opinions.........

I have owned a Brazilian rainbow boa previously and he was an excellent snake. Not ever nippy (even when young) and ate well. A good intermediate snake. I also have a jungle carpet python who eats well, but she can be very snarky. My young anerythristic boa constrictor imperator is nice as well and eats well. I liked the BRB and the BCI but I wish the JCP was a bit more docile. All are pretty easy keepers.

Hmmm.....a favorite? Man, there are so many. I have 30 snakes, and I like each one for different reasons. How about I give you my top 5?

5. Nuevo Leon Kingsnakes (thayeri): Great dispositions, good feeders, and one of the most interesting and beautiful snakes I have ever seen.

4. Rosy Boa: Any locality, color, etc., these have been one of my favorites since starting in the hobby, just wonderful, awesome snakes to work with.

3. Nicaraguan Boas: I have had a pair of these for about 8 months now, and they are just awesome. I have always liked the redtail/imperator snakes, they just got too big for me. The Nics have changed that for me, and it could be trouble for my wallet.

2. Western Hognose snakes: My female laid only one egg last year, and when it hatched, wow are these little guys cool. Awesome.

1. Spotted/Childrens/Anthill Pythons: I am a huge fan of the small Australian species of pythons. They are all interesting, easy to breed, and just overall wonderful snakes. My favorite of all time.

Honorable mention: Eyelash vipers: I don't keep hots, but if I did, it would be them.

The thing about my snakes is that I try to get at least a pair of something new every year, and I like to try out different ones, so my list can change quickly. It's an addiction!

Opinions... that is a hard question to ask. Since 1957, I have had almost every snake a person could think of. All of them have different attitudes, personalities and requirements. I think that having a "personal favorite" is up to the keeper. I prefer Cobras but many would not even think of keeping them. Now, as to the why.. blame it on Bill Haast (owner of the Miami Serpentarium), Charles E. Shaw (past curator of reptiles at the San Diego Zoo) and a curiosity and fascination of something so "lethal".
I have had large Pythons (Retics and Burms) up to 27 feet and Ring-necked snakes as small as a foot long. I have enjoyed each and every one of the snakes that I have owned in my life (and there have been many and at one time, several hundred in the collection).

I like corn snakes because they are very friendly and they dont eat rats or bunnies. I have a corn snake and i got him when i was 5. He is great and he only bit me 2 times. ( that was my mistake ) The corn snake will grow up to 6 feet long and will weigh a couple pounds. They are only 40 to 50 dallors.

I tend to like smaller snakes because I don't like feeding mice, rats or bunnies. When I feed them I drop the mouse/rat in and run out and check up on them later. I had a Ball Python, E. Kingsnake, a Gartersnake, Black Ratsnake, Cornsnakes and a Green phase Burmese Python(she was my favorite), her name was Comet she was born the last time Hailey's Comet came around. She was 10ft and I rescued her and had her for 3 years and rehomed her, she died shortly after. So if your going to get another snake and you want something big go for that.

I like cornsnakes, but I don't have any experience with other types to compare them to. We just recently bought a sunbeam cornsnake. He is brightly colored, and very easy to handle. Corn snakes are really good starter snakes for someone looking to get into keeping snakes. Eventually I plan to get a bigger one, once I'm more experienced in caring for snakes.

I like corn snakes because they are tame, friendly do not get to big and look cool. They are very colorful. Their are a lot of breeds of corn snakes. I like also and king snakes too, for the same reasons. I have a corn snake and we had a C.A. king snake.

CA king snake or rosy boa are my two favorites. The rosy's are really sweet and I like the king snakes because they're black and white, and they eat rattlesnakes (a big problem here in southern CA)
