The reason he changed to number 24 is because that was the number he played with in high school.

He had the highest selling jersey and thought everyone had his number 8 so he changed it to 24 to sell more jerseys.
Kobe probably has a different reason though this one is true.

My guess is three reasons first he didn't like the number 8 anymore and second i think his Jersey sales to go back up and thrid it also was his high school number
