I remember reading that too. If I remember right there were 4 children - Jack, Phillip, Lucy-Ann, Dinah, and Kiki the Parrot or Cockatoo. I think it was called the Island of Adventure, and it was by Enid Blyton. Don't know if that was the same book, but Puffin Island sounds familiar.

Enid Blyton did another series about a group of four chidren, with titles like The Island of Aventure, The Castle of Adventure, The Circus of Adventure - I loved them!

Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome? This is British, with siblings, who have adventures on an island in the Lake District while on holiday. I don't remember a teacher, though.

there was a series of enid blyton books that were things like 'adventure on the island' that sort of thing. can't remember any teachers being around - adults are usually disposed of early on in children's books!

yeah it was philip lucy Dinah and the parror. I think it was island of adventure but dont know whether there was a series of them.Wasnt the teacher a tutor for the holidays - a man?
